Firstly to make masala, add all the whole spices, ginger and basil leaves to a mortar and crush them gently.

In a small saucepan on high heat, pour in the water. Once water start boiling add the crushed spices. Bring the spices to boil for 2-4 minutes on low-medium flame.

Now add the tea leaves and simmer for another 2 minutes, or until the tea leaves and spices have released flavor and color.

Then, pour in the milk. Continue to simmer the chai until desired consistency and color, about 5-7 minutes. Once done turn off flame and add jaggery as per taste. Stir the tea until jaggery melted or influenced.

Strain the chai with a sieve into glasses, mugs, or a tea pot. Serve hot
