Heat 2tbsp mustard oil.Add dry red chillies, bay leaves, cardamom, cloves, cinnamon stick

To the aromatic whole spices, add chopped onion followed by ginger garlic paste.Fry the onions golden brown until the raw smell of paste goes away.

Add washed and cleaned chicken pieces and cook on high flame, stirring so as to cook the meat uniformly

Add chopped tomatoes and cook thoroughly with the meat.Mix the masala ingredients with 4-5tbsp water and add to the chicken

Fry well until masalas and chicken are cooked evenly.

Now add soaked chana dal(30min soaking is good enough)and moong dal to the masala chicken and stir for a couple of minutes.Add enough water to cover the food.Add 1tsp garam masala.

Cook it under pressure for 4-5whistles(we want to overcook the meat heat so that it easily breaks and mixes with the lentils).Serve hot with coriander leaves garnish and a bowl of steamed rice.
