Wash dal. Combine ingredients to pressure cook in a cooker. Close the cooker when water starts to boil. Allow it to whistle once or twice max on medium flame.

Open the lid when the cooker cools down.

Heat a seasoning bowl with oil. Add cumin seeds and wait till it starts to crackle. Add garlic and asafoetida powder. Fry garlic till it's almost brown (Don't burn it). Turn off the stove. Add red chilli powder to it. Combine and pour it in the cooked dal palakh.

Combine well lightly. If the dal looks watery, boil a bit. Serve with bhakhri and/rice.

Variation: mung dal can be replaced with tuver dal or mixed dal.
