Ingredients

10-15 min
3 people
  • To pressure cook
  • 2 1/2fists yellow mung dal
  • 2 cupschopped spinach
  • 1medium size onion roughly diced
  • 1medium size tomato roughly diced
  • 2green chillies
  • 1 tspsalt
  • 1 tspred chilli powder
  • 1/2 tspdhanajeera powder
  • 1/4 tspturmeric powder
  • 5garlic cloves (chop if you do not like whole)
  • 1 tspoil
  • 2 cupswater
  • For seasoning
  • 2 tbspoil
  • 1 tspcumin seeds
  • 10 clovesgarlic (each clove cut in the middle)
  • 1/4 tspasafoetida powder
  • 1 tspred chilli powder

Steps

10-15 min
  1. 1

    Wash dal. Combine ingredients to pressure cook in a cooker. Close the cooker when water starts to boil. Allow it to whistle once or twice max on medium flame.

    Open the lid when the cooker cools down.

    Heat a seasoning bowl with oil. Add cumin seeds and wait till it starts to crackle. Add garlic and asafoetida powder. Fry garlic till it's almost brown (Don't burn it). Turn off the stove. Add red chilli powder to it. Combine and pour it in the cooked dal palakh.

    Combine well lightly. If the dal looks watery, boil a bit. Serve with bhakhri and/rice.

    Variation: mung dal can be replaced with tuver dal or mixed dal.
