In a large pan over medium heat, stir the butter, brown sugar, and chopped dates together until it gets all mushed up.

Wait until it's cool enough to handle without getting burned, yet hot enough such that it sticks together easily. In order to complete the following process while the mixture is at its ideal temperature, you may find it helpful to recruit the help of multiple people.
Quickly mold the dough into palm-sized balls, roughly 3 cm wide. Toss the balls into a bowl of powdered sugar to coat, tap off the excess, and let cool on sheets of wax paper or parchment.
Yields about 12 dozen cookies.
