Sushi Rice Bowl

This is my favourite hot day dish, that I often prepare for my family on a very hot day and I don’t want to cook anything. My kitchen has a large window that is facing west, and the kitchen can get extremely hot. While it is still not too hot, I prepare Sushi Rice and cook Eggs. In the evening, all I have to do is arranging ingredients on the Sushi Rice. I can’t handle the heat, but I can handle this.

Ingredients

10 minutes
1 Serving *OR any number of servings
  • 1serving (*about 200g) Cooked Short Grain Rice *must be hot
  • 2 teaspoonsSugar
  • 3 teaspoonsRice Vinegar
  • 1/5 teaspoonSalt *slightly less than 1/4 teaspoon
  • *Note: If you prepare more than 1 serving, see ‘Sushi Rice’ page
    Sushi Rice
  • Toppings
  • *Note: Toppings can be anything of your choice. Here are some suggestions
  • Smoked Salmon *mixed with thinly sliced Onion OR Spring Onion
  • Sashimi
  • Teriyaki Chicken OR Chicken Katsu
    Teriyaki Chicken Chirashi-zushi
  • Shelled Cooked Prawns
  • Tuna Mayo *canned Tuna mixed with Mayonnaise and a little Soy Sauce
  • Ham
  • Edamame
  • Cooked Egg *e.g. Scrambled Egg, Thin Egg Strips, Boiled Egg, etc
    Thin Omelette Strips
  • Avocado
  • Salad Vegetables *e.g. Lettuce, Cucumber, Sugar Snap Peas, Tomatoes, etc
  • Nori
  • Japanese Mayonnaise
  • Soy Sauce

Steps

10 minutes
  1. 1

    Place hot cooked Short Grain Rice in a bowl, that can be a serving bowl. Mix Rice Vinegar, Sugar and Salt in a small bowl, and add it to the hot Rice. Mix well, then set aside.

    *Note: If you prepare more than 1 serving, see ‘Sushi Rice’ page.

  3. 3

    When the Sushi Rice is cooled, cover with your favourite toppings, drizzle with Japanese Mayonnaise and some Soy Sauce, and enjoy.
