Savory Omurice with Ground Meat

Our family's omurice features rice seasoned with ground meat in a meat sauce style. It's richer and more flavorful than traditional chicken rice—absolutely delicious!
How this recipe came about:
I created this version when I only had ground meat on hand for omurice. Now, this is the only way we make it at home! Regular chicken rice just doesn't compare anymore (haha).
Savory Omurice with Ground Meat
Our family's omurice features rice seasoned with ground meat in a meat sauce style. It's richer and more flavorful than traditional chicken rice—absolutely delicious!

Finely chop the onion and green bell peppers.

Heat vegetable oil in a frying pan. Sauté the garlic, ginger, and ground meat.

Once the meat is cooked through, add the onion and cook until softened. Then add the green bell peppers and sauté together.

Add the ketchup and tonkatsu sauce to the pan, reduce the heat to low, then add the water and chicken bouillon. Bring to a simmer.

Cook until most of the liquid evaporates, then increase the heat to high and add the rice. Stir-fry to combine.

Once the meat and rice are evenly mixed, season with salt and pepper. Divide the mixture onto four plates.

Beat the eggs (2 per person) with milk (1 tablespoon per person), salt, and pepper.

Heat butter or vegetable oil in a frying pan over high heat. When the oil is hot and shimmering,

Pour in one portion of the egg mixture. Quickly stir with chopsticks or a spatula to form a round omelet. Turn off the heat immediately!

While the omelet is still slightly runny, use a spatula to slide it onto the rice on each plate and shape it as desired.

Finish by drizzling with ketchup and sprinkling with basil or oregano, if you like. Enjoy!
