Ingredients

Makes 30 pieces
  1. 7 ozground pork (200 g)
  2. 30shumai wrappers
  3. 1onion
  4. 4 tablespoonspotato starch (about 32 g)
  5. 2 tablespoonssoy sauce
  6. 1 tablespoonsugar
  7. 1 teaspoonsalt
  8. 1 teaspooncooking sake
  9. 1 teaspoongrated garlic
  10. 1/3 teaspoonsesame oil
  11. as neededVegetable oil,
  12. 1/2 cupwater (100 ml)

Steps

  1. 1

    Add all the seasonings marked with ● to the ground pork and mix well until sticky.

  2. 2

    Finely chop the onion, coat it evenly with potato starch, then add to the pork mixture and mix thoroughly.

  3. 3

    Make a circle with your thumb and index finger, place a shumai wrapper on top, and press the filling into the center to shape.

    Fold any excess wrapper edges over the top to seal.

    Arrange the shumai in a skillet lightly coated with vegetable oil. Pour water around the edge of the pan and steam-fry over medium heat.

    Once the water boils, cook over medium heat for 10–15 minutes until done.
