These are thick pancakes made using a thick pancake mold from the 100-yen store Seria. I’m sharing my own notes because following the package instructions didn’t work out for me. Recipe background: I couldn’t get good results with the original instructions, so I made some adjustments. Thank you for making this recipe popular on 2015.10.10!

Ingredients

Makes 3 thick pancakes using the Seria mold
  1. 1 1/4 cupspancake mix (about 150 grams)

Steps

  1. 1

Mix the pancake mix, milk, and egg to make the batter. Pour the batter into a buttered mold up to the height of the handle. Do not turn on the heat yet.

  2. 2

Cover with a lid and cook over low heat for 6 minutes. Turn off the heat and let it sit for 1 minute. (The original instructions say 7 minutes, but mine burned at that time.)

  3. 3

Open the lid. If the pancake has puffed up and bubbles have formed, it’s ready for the next step.

  4. 4

Turn off the heat and use a spatula to remove the mold from the pan. Add oil or butter to the pan, then flip the mold over and cook for 3 minutes over low heat without a lid. (See tips for details.)

  5. 5

Remove the pancake from the mold and it’s done! If you butter the mold, the pancake will slide out easily when you lift it.

  6. 6

I used a thick pancake mold from the 100-yen store.

  7. 7

While these aren’t quite as fluffy as souffle pancakes, you can enjoy the feeling of eating pancakes from a famous coffee shop.
