A Halloween ghost sandwich that kids will love!
No special tools needed, and it’s super easy!
Make a bunch for parties or lunchboxes.

Since he’s a light eater and eats slowly, I wanted to make a cute lunch using a butter roll.
Steps
- 1
Here are the ingredients.
And your choice of filling for the bread.
*This time, I used egg salad. - 2
Here are the tools you’ll need:
A clean hole punch, cookie cutter, small knife, and small scissors.
I bought all of these for about $1 each. - 3
Use a knife to cut a mouth into the roll. Make it wide across.
- 4
Remove the cut piece. Don’t worry if it’s uneven—the tongue will cover it!
Save the removed piece for later. - 5
Cut a slit horizontally in the roll with a knife to add the filling.
- 6
This time, I used egg salad (chopped hard-boiled egg, mayonnaise, salt, and pepper).
Fill it generously, but don’t let it spill out the sides. - 7
Cut the ham with scissors to make a tongue.
You can chop up any leftover ham and add it to the sandwich. - 8
Cut the ham into a long, rounded heart shape.
Make a small cut in the center at the top... - 9
Open the two sides to make it look like a tongue.
- 10
Place the ham tongue in the mouth.
Pinch the bottom of the roll to give it a ghostly shape. - 11
Use the piece you removed earlier to make hands.
First, cut it in half with scissors... - 12
Cut each half into a teardrop shape.
If it’s thick, peel off the back to make it thinner. - 13
Make the eyes.
Flip a cookie cutter upside down and use it to cut circles from the cheese slice. - 14
Cut out smaller circles from the cheese as well.
- 15
Now you have crescent-shaped eyes.
- 16
For the ghost’s head scarf, cut the cheese into a triangle with a knife.
(If you want a Western-style ghost, skip this step. The scarf makes it look Japanese-style.) - 17
Assemble all the parts.
Just place the ham and cheese on top. Attach the hands with mayonnaise or honey. - 18
Make the pupils.
Use a hole punch to punch out small circles from the nori. - 19
Place the nori on the cheese eyes.
All done!! - 20
I’ve made this for lunchboxes before.
It’s perfect for character bento!
