Ingredients

  • 1small bowl cooked white rice (about 3/4 cup, 120 grams)
  • 1 cupwater (240 ml)
  • 1egg
  • About 1 tablespoon miso (15 grams), or to taste
  • 1 pinchdashi granules (such as Hondashi)
  • Optional
  • Chopped green onions and whitebait (shirasu), as desired

Steps

  1. 1

    Add the water and rice to a pot and heat over medium.

    *If using cold leftover rice, break up any clumps with a spoon.

  2. 2

    Once it comes to a boil, reduce the heat slightly and simmer for a while. When the rice softens, add the dashi granules and miso, and stir to combine.

  3. 3

    Pour in the beaten egg and stir gently. It’s ready to serve.

  4. 4

    Depending on how you feel, you can also add green onions or whitebait (shirasu) with the egg for extra flavor.
