Just Steam! Flavorful, Low-Sodium Edamame
This is the most delicious way to enjoy edamame! It's also a great low-sodium option.

Recipe background:
When I was concerned about the salt used when boiling edamame, a local edamame farmer taught me this method. The flavor is concentrated and the edamame turns out tender and tasty. In our house, we enjoy them just like this, without adding any extra salt. You also save water since you don't need to boil a large pot.

Steps
- 1
Rub the edamame pods with salt, then rinse thoroughly to remove the fuzz from the pods.
- 2
Place the washed edamame and water in a deep skillet or pot. Do not add salt at this stage.
- 3
Cover the skillet with a lid and heat over medium.
- 4
After about 4–6 minutes, you'll notice a nice aroma from the edamame. Cooking time may vary depending on the variety and freshness of the edamame.
- 5
Drain the edamame in a colander and quickly cool them using a fan or by fanning with a hand fan. Enjoy! Taste and sprinkle with extra salt if desired (not included in ingredient list).
