There are many ways of making chana masala .I tried this method and came out very nice and yummy .My son loved it with plain puri only.

There are many ways of making chana masala .I tried this method and came out very nice and yummy .My son loved it with plain puri only.
Steps

Soak chana for six hours. After 6 hours pressure cook chana with enough water for 4 to 5 whistle.

Heat sauce pan and add 1 tbsp oil.Add cloves,cinnamon and cardamon and fry little. Then add chopped 1 onion and fry till it turns brown.Add little ginger and garlic pieces and fry.Add grated coconut and fry till it leaves the oil on the sides of the pan.

Allow it to cool and grind it into smooth paste and keep it aside.

Chop remaining 2 onions and tomatoes.Grind onions, ginger and garlic into smooth paste. Heat oil in saucepan and add this ground onion paste and fry nicely on low flame.Grind tomatoes also to make smooth puree. Add this puree to it and fry till it leaves oil.Add red chilli powder and turmeric.Add salt to taste. Mix well.

Add little water and put the cooked chana and mix well.Allow it to cook for 10 mins.Then add the ground coconut masala and mix well. Put the chana masala and stir it nicely and allow to cook for some more time.

Garnish with coriander leaves and add lemon juice and serve hot with puri or Baturas.
