Ingredients

  • .2-3medium-sized yams, peeled and cut into small cubes.Palm oil.1 onion, chopped.2 cloves garlic, and 1 teaspoon grated ginger.Dry or smoked fish cut into small pieces (optional). crayfish
  • . seasoning cubes.Salt and pepper, to taste.2 cups water.2 tablespoons tomato paste or fresh tomatoes (optional)

    Heat oil in a large pot over medium heat.

  2. 2

    .Add onion, garlic, and ginger; stir until the onion is fried

  3. 3

    Add the yam cubes and stir well.

  4. 4

    . Add dry or smoked fish (if using) and stir well.

  5. 5

    Add seasoning cubes, crayfish, salt, and pepper; stir well.

  6. 6

    Pour in water and bring to boil.

  7. 7

    Reduce heat to low and simmer for 20-25 minutes, or until the yams are tender.

  8. 8

    Use a wooden spoon or masher to mash some of the yams and thicken the porridge.

  9. 9

    If using tomato paste, fresh tomatoes stir it in add in the alefo or ugu during the last 5 minutes of cooking.

    Serve hot and enjoy!!

    Tips
    - Use high-quality yams for the best flavor.
    - Adjust the amount of spices to your taste.
    - You can add other ingredients like fish, shrimp, or vegetables(Ugu, alefo) to suit your taste.
