Ingredients

  • 2 cupsall-purpose flour, plus more for dusting
  • 1 tablespoonbaking powder
  • 1 teaspoonsalt
  • 1/2 teaspoonbaking soda
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick)cold unsalted butter, cut into small cubes
  • 1 cupcold buttermilk

    Preheat and Prep: Preheat oven to 450°F (230°C). Lightly grease a baking sheet or line it with parchment paper.

    Combine Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and baking soda.

  3. 3

    Cut in the Butter: Add the cold butter cubes to the flour mixture. Using a pastry blender or your fingertips, cut the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

  4. 4

    Add Buttermilk: Pour the cold buttermilk into the flour mixture and stir gently with a fork until just combined. Do not overmix. The dough will be slightly sticky.

  5. 5

    Shape the Biscuits: Lightly flour a clean surface. Turn the dough out onto the floured surface and gently knead it a few times until it comes together.

  6. 6

    Cut the Biscuits: Pat the dough into a 1/2-inch to 3/4-inch thick rectangle. Use a biscuit cutter or a glass to cut out the biscuits.

  7. 7

    Bake: Place the biscuits on the prepared baking sheet, leaving a little space between them. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown.

    Serve: Serve warm with butter, jam, honey, or your favorite toppings.
