Aratikaya Vepudu/Raw Banana Fry

#CA2025
Raw Banana is used as a vegetable in South India to make bhajji, chips, curry, kofta, stir fry or roast.
They are highly nutritious, good source of proteins and Vitamins.
Aratikaya Vepudu is Andhra Style Raw Banana fried veggie. Tender Raw Bananas are not suitable to prepare this recipe. They must be firm. This recipe is very easy to prepare, bit spicy but tastes amazing when paired with Rice, Dal or Rasam. Red chilli powder is used in the recipe but you can substitute it with Green Chillies. It's crispy yet soft when finally prepared. I would just say simple yet SPECIAL. Must try recipe!

Steps
- 1
Take all ingredients together to make Aratikaya Vepudu. Wash and peel raw bananas and chop into slices. To prevent them from turning black, keep the chopped raw banana slices in a bowl filled with water until it is ready to use. Note - The slices should not be too thick or too thin.
- 2
Drain the water when done with all preparations. Put the raw banana in a large mixing bowl. Add salt, red chilli powder, turmeric powder and garam masala powder.
- 3
Toss it and mix it well so that the masala gets coated well onto the slices.
- 4
Now, heat oil in heavy-bottomed pan or wok. Add Mustard seeds and Urad Dal. When the mustard seeds begins to splutter, add curry leaves or chopped garlic.
- 5
Saute till the garlic is done. Add the coated raw banana peices to the pan and toss them gently on low heat. Stir in-between.
- 6
Add lemon juice. Mix well and cook for 10 to 15 minutes. When the raw banana seems cooked, add roasted Sesame seeds. Mix gently. Add 1 teaspoon of oil for the raw bananas to get well fried or crisp.
- 7
Turn off the heat and it is ready. Place it on banana leaf with steamed rice.
- 8
Crispy yet tender Aratikaya Vepudu is ready to enjoy.
