Ingredients

  • 1 lbSpicy Italian sausage
  • 1 lbground beef
  • 1 boxZiti pasta
  • 1 tablespoonolive oil
  • 2 tbspminced Garlic
  • 1Onion chopped
  • 14.5 ozpetite diced tomatoes
  • 25 ozPasta sauce
  • 1 cupReserved pasta water
  • 2Bay leaves
  • 1 teaspoondried basil
  • 1 teaspoondried oregano
  • as neededNon-stick spray
  • 1/4 cupParmesan cheese
  • 8 ozFresh mozzarella ball
  • 2 cupsricotta cheese

    Preheat oven to 350°F. Heat a pan and brown sausage and beef (no oil needed). Drain once cooked.

  2. 2

    Add olive oil, chopped onion, and minced garlic. Cook until fragrant.

  3. 3

    Boil ziti in salted water until al dente. Drain, reserving 1 cup pasta water.

  4. 4

    Add petite diced tomatoes and pasta sauce to meat. Add oregano, basil, and pasta water.

  5. 5

    Add bay leaves, salt, and pepper to taste. Simmer covered on medium for 30 minutes.

  6. 6

    Spray baking dish with non-stick spray. Remove bay leaves from sauce.

  7. 7

    Add cooked ziti to sauce. Fold in mozzarella and Parmesan.

  8. 8

    Pour mixture into baking dish. Add dollops of ricotta cheese. Bake at 350°F for 30 minutes.

  9. 9

    Serve hot and enjoy the creamy, cheesy baked ziti.
