This vada reminds me of the malayalam film star Salim Kumar's dialogue in one of his movies.."kaanaan look illanae ullu"😛...(not all that great in looks )..these not so perfectly shaped vada's were yummm...it was light and crispy..but somehow I couldn't shape it properly..I should master the art of making the vada's with the hole..

Soak 1 cup of urad dal in water overnight

Lightly dry roast the 1 tablespoon of urad dal and raw rice and grind it to a fine powder

Now grind the soaked urad dal adding very little water

Mix the powderd dal-rice mix to the urad dal

Add salt and the rest of the ingredients(shallots,chilli,pepper,curry leaves,ginger,asafoetida) and give it a good mix and let it sit for 10 minutes

Wet your hands with water and scoop about a table spoon and half of the mixture onto your hand and shape it like a doughnut(or rather like a polo"mint with a hole":) )..

Now slide this doughnut shaped batter into hot oil and fry till golden brown
