A few more tips: Don’t worry if the dough pieces are large—they’ll just be crunchier. I use a 10-inch (26 cm) square baking dish and don’t butter it.
Steps
- 1
Chop the apples in a food processor into small pieces (do not puree).
- 2
Place them in a bowl, add the sugar and cinnamon, and let them sit while you prepare the dough.
- 3
In another bowl, combine the sugar and margarine, mixing with your hands until well blended.
- 4
Add the flour and mix well with the other ingredients.
- 5
Take half the dough in your hands (like shaping cookies) and crumble it into small pieces (like breadcrumbs) into the baking dish.
- 6
Drain the apples well and spread them evenly over the dough.
- 7
Crumble the remaining dough on top in the same way.
- 8
Bake at 350°F (180°C) until the dough is golden brown.
