Sayur Kacang Merah (Kidney Beans Soup)

This is traditional Sundanese (people of West Java region) dish. One of my comfort foods. It takes some time to prepare it, but it's worth it. My family loves this recipe.
If you are using dried kidney beans, make sure to soak them in water overnight, then boil them 10 minutes. Discard the water and you can use the kidney beans in your dishes. Simmer for at least 30 minutes. I use fresh kidney beans, so as long as you boil and then simmer them for 30 minutes or so, it should be OK.
