Grease two 9 inch round pans.

Preheat oven to 350°F.

Make a paste of cocoa and good coloring. Set aside.

Combine buttermilk, salt, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla.

In a large bowl combine the oil and sugar into a bowl then beat in the eggs on at a time.

Stir in the cocoa mixture into the egg mixture.

Beat in the buttermilk mixture into the large bowl alternately with the flour.

Gently fold the baking soda into the cake batter.

Pour batter into prepared pans.

Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes clean.

Allow to cool before fronting.
