Waldorf Red Velvet Cake (grandmother's cookbook)

Mix the cream shortening, sugar and eggs. Make a paste with the coloring and cocoa and add it to the mixture.

Add salt and buttermilk with flour and vanilla (it is best to add the flour alternateky with the buttermilk).

Add the vinegar and soda and don't beat hard, just blend.

Bake 30 minutes at 350° in two 9" cake pans (be sure to let layers cool)

FROSTING - Cook flour and milk until thick. Let cool and cream sugar + butter + add to flour + milk mixture.
