Ingredients

2 servings
  1. 4fish steaks, thinly sliced
  2. 3 tspOil for shallow-frying
  3. 1/2 tspred chilli powder
  4. 1/4 tspblack pepper powder
  5. 1/4 tspturmeric powder
  6. 1 tspgaram masala powder
  7. 1 tbspshallots or pearl onions, ground to a paste
  8. 1/2 tspfreshly crushed ginger garlic paste
  9. 1 tspsalt

Steps

    Clean the fish steaks and let the excess water drain.

  2. 2

    You can also use a Kitchen towel to mop up the excess water.

  3. 3

    In a bowl, mix all the ingredients to prepare the marinade.

  4. 4

    The marinade should be a thick paste so the moisture from the shallots and ginger garlic should be enough but if not, add a few drops of water.

  5. 5

    Coat the fish pieces generously on all sides with the fish fry marinade.

  6. 6

    Let the marinated fish pieces sit in the fridge, covered, for at least 30 minutes.

  7. 7

    When ready to fry, heat enough oil to shallow fry the fish.

  8. 8

    Gently drop each fish piece into the hot oil and keep the heat medium high.

  9. 9

    Fry both sides until dark brown and the fish is cooked through.

  10. 10

    Serve hot with raw onions and lemon wedges.
