Ingredients

  1. Cornbread starter
  2. 3 cupSmiths or course ground cornmeal
  3. 1egg
  4. 1 cupButtermilk
  5. 1/2 cupwater
  6. 1/4 cupoil
  7. For Dressing mix
  8. 1pone cornbread, crumbled well
  9. 3 tbspSage
  10. 2 tbspBlack pepper
  11. 1egg
  12. 2 1/2 canchicken broth
  13. 1 mediumonion, chopped or dried onion
  14. 1/4 tspsalt
  15. 1enough oil to grease 9x13 pan

Steps

  1. 1

    Mix all ingredients well. Make sure the batter is about cake batter consistency.

  2. 2

    Add oil to pan to grease well, pour excess oil into batter for browning.

  3. 3

    Bake in cast iron skillet, or heavy bottom pan. Iron works best. Bake at 375° for about 30 - 40 minutes, or until toothpick comes out clean.

    For Dressing mix: mix well after each ingredient.

  5. 5

    Make sure each ingredient is mixed from bottom of mixing bowl up thru mix.

  6. 6

    Also make sure the mixture isn't too dry. Should be consistency of cookie batter. its not hard once you make it a couple times.

  7. 7

    Preheat oven to 400°, and bake for 45 minutes or until edges are brown and toothpick is clean.
