Ingredients

  1. 2 1/2 cupssifted all purpose flour
  2. 1 teaspoonbaking powder
  3. 1 teaspoonsalt
  4. 2 tablespoonscocoa powder
  5. 1/2 cupunsalted butter (room temp)
  6. 1 1/2 cupssugar
  7. 2eggs (room temp)
  8. 1bottle[2oz] red food coloring
  9. 1 cupbuttermilk (rom temp)
  10. 1 teaspoonbaking soda
  11. 1 teaspoonwhite vinegar
  12. 1 teaspoonvanilla
  13. 3/4 cupmilk
  14. 1/2 cupsugar

Cooking Instructions

    Preheat oven to 350

  2. 2

    Sift together flour, baking powder, salt in a bowl

  3. 3

    In a small bowl mix the cocoa and food coloring to form a paste.

  4. 4

    In a large bowl mix with a hand mixer. the butter and sugar until fluffy.

  5. 5

    Beat in eggs one at a time then beat in the cocoa paste

  6. 6

    Add 1/3 flour mixture to butter mixture,

  7. 7

    Then 1/2 buttermilk, 1/3 flour mixture, second half butter milk then final 1/3 flour mixture

  8. 8

    In small bowl mix vinegar and baking soda (it should fizz)

  9. 9

    Mix baking soda mixture into cake batter. mix well then quickly divide into cake pans

  10. 10

    Grease your pan with a cooking spray or butter and Bake 30 - 35 minutes OR until a table knife inserted comes out clean. and leave to cool.

    GLAZE- mix 2/3 cup milk with 1/2 cup sugar in saucepan. bring to boil.

    Then pour and spread over the cooled cake. (it makes the even more moist and gives a nice base for frosting).

Do we HAVE to add food coloring? Or is it just optional?
