add diced carrots, onions, celery to preheated pan of olive oil

add diced fennel

strip the thyme overy pot and discard sticks

add bay leaf

saute 10 minutes

add beans and grated garlic, stir

add stock, tomatoes, salt, pepper and a drizzle of olive oil and stir

stir, cover and boil for 1 hour until beans are soft

add pasta and cook 5 minutes

chop basil and add to pot

stir thoroughly and serve
