Ingredients

  1. 2 largeOnions, peeled, cut into rings and each piece separated
  2. 3/4 cupAll purpose flour
  3. 1 1/2 cupButtermilk (you may need 2 cups)
  4. 1Egg
  5. 1 tspBaking powder
  6. 1 tspPaprika
  7. 1 tspCelery salt
  8. 1 tspParsley flakes
  9. 1Salt and pepper
  10. 1as needed Vegetable oil
  11. 1 dashA few dashes of hot sauce (if wanted)

  1. 1

    In a large pot, add enough oil so that it comes halfway up the side of the pot, allow the oil to come to 375°F.

  2. 2

    In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, buttermilk, egg, baking powder, salt, pepper, hot sauce (if used), parsley, and paprika so that you have a very smooth mixture.

  3. 3

    Dip each onion ring into the batter, shake off some of the excess and add them to the hot oil. Allow them to cook for about a minute on each side, or until golden brown.

  4. 4

    Drain on a paper towel lined plate and serve immediately with desired sauce, if any!
