In a large pot, add enough oil so that it comes halfway up the side of the pot, allow the oil to come to 375°F.

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, buttermilk, egg, baking powder, salt, pepper, hot sauce (if used), parsley, and paprika so that you have a very smooth mixture.

Dip each onion ring into the batter, shake off some of the excess and add them to the hot oil. Allow them to cook for about a minute on each side, or until golden brown.

Drain on a paper towel lined plate and serve immediately with desired sauce, if any!
