Lizzie's Miracle Not Too Sweet Buttercream Icing

I have always been obsessed with everything and anything cupcake related. I suddenly realized that I needed a reliable icing recipe that wouldn't send anyone into a sugar coma, like almost every other recipe I have stumbled upon. This recipe is versatile, if you want a thicker icing add less or no milk To make it thinner add more. Add gel food coloring for vibrant colors or leave it to be its off white color. Your choice. Keep cooking!

In your magically fantastic Kitchen Aid mixer, or an equivalent device, cream together your softened butter and shortening on a somewhat low speed until it is a smooth consistent mixture. While mixing at your lowest speed add the powdered sugar, cup by cup, going slow enough that it won't blow up into your face and hair and turn you into a ghost. Add your vanilla extract and milk and mix until combined. This will frost about 12 cupcakes or 1 small cake.
