Ingredients

  1. 250 gmsChana dal / bengal gram -
  2. 1Grated onion -
  3. 2 tbspChopped coriander leaves -
  4. 2 tbspGrated dry coconut -
  5. 1/2 tspChopped green chilli -
  6. 1/2 tspGaram masala powder -
  7. 1 tspBlack mustard seeds -
  8. 1 tspCumin seeds / jeera seeds -
  9. 1 pinchAsafoetida / hing -
  10. 8 - 10Curry leaves -
  11. to tasteSalt -
  12. Oil - for frying

Steps

  1. 1

    Wash and soak chana dal for 4 - 5 hours.

    Add 1 - 2 tbsp water and grind coarsely.

    Take a bowl add chana dal paste,onion,coconut,green chilli,garam masala powder,salt and coriander leaves and mix well.

  4. 4

    Take one tsp oil in a pan.

  5. 5

    Add black mustard seeds,cumin seeds and asafoetida to crackle.

  6. 6

    Add curry leaves and switch off the gas and mix in the chana dal paste.

  7. 7

    Shape each ball to vada.

  8. 8

    Dip fry in hot oil and drain in paper napkin

  9. 9

    Serve hot with tea.
