Green Beans Almondine
This simple side dish is great to impress your girlfriend with a healthy and exotic mix of common ingredients for a "home cooked" date night. Goes well with wild rice and grilled meat.
Steps
- 1
Heat a medium-sized pan until it is nearly smoking hot. Toast the almonds (move frequently so they toast evenly).
- 2
Add the green beans. The heat of the pan will scorch them slightly. This is fine.
- 3
Add a few splashes of water, just enough to create the steam that will cook the beans, but not so much that it cools down the pan.
- 4
Add the raisins and the ground clove.
- 5
Continue splashing water into the pan. Use just enough that it steams immediately, and wait until the pan heats up again before the next splash.
- 6
Place in a serving dish, and sprinkle with sea salt to taste.
