Ingredients

  • For a 8 inch skillet:
  • 1 CupSelf Rising Cornmeal
  • 1Large Egg
  • 3/4 cupMilk or buttermilk
  • 1/2 cupSugar
  • 3 TablespoonCrisco vegetable oil
  • For a 12 inch skillet increase ingredients:
  • 2 cupscornmeal
  • 2eggs
  • 1 1/2 cupsmilk or buttermilk
  • 1 cupsugar
  • 4 tablespoonsCrisco pure vegetable oil

Steps

  1. 1

    Pour oil in an 8 (or 12)inch iron skillet and place in oven at 400 degrees until oil sizzles.

  2. 2

    Mix cornmeal, egg, milk and sugar in bowl. Pour hot oil over cornmeal mixture, stirring lightly and return to skillet.

  3. 3

    Bake in 400 degrees oven until golden brown. About 30 minutes.
