Ingredients

30 minutes
  • 12flour tortillas
  • enough oil for frying the tortillas
  • 2large cones of piloncillo (about 16 ounces/450 grams total)
  • 2 tablespoonswhole anise seeds
  • 2 cupswater (480 ml)
  • paper towels

Steps

30 minutes
  1. 1

    In a saucepan, bring the 2 cups of water, piloncillo, and anise seeds to a boil. Cook until the syrup thickens. Once thickened, remove from heat and let cool for a few minutes. Strain the syrup through a fine sieve and set aside.

    Fry the flour tortillas in enough oil until golden brown on both sides. Drain on paper towels.

    Serve the buñuelos drizzled with piloncillo syrup.
