Ingredients

  1. 1/3 cupdried, ground hot red pepper (about 20 grams)
  2. 3 1/2 tablespoonstomato sauce (about 55 grams)
  3. 1 1/3 cupswater (about 315 ml)
  4. 2green hot chili peppers
  5. Spices:
  6. 1 teaspoonblack pepper, packed
  7. 1/2 teaspoonground coriander (cilantro seed)
  8. Pinchginger
  9. Pinchpaprika
  10. 1 teaspoongarlic powder, packed
  11. 1 tablespoondried onion flakes
  12. Salt, to taste
  13. 1 tablespoonapple cider vinegar and regular white vinegar (mixed)
  14. 1good squeeze of lemon juice
  15. 1 tablespoonvegetable oil

Steps

  1. 1

    Place the tomato sauce in a cup, add the water, and stir until the sauce is dissolved and thickened.

    Pour the mixture into a cooking pot, add the red pepper, stir, and add 1/4 cup water (about 60 ml). Once it starts to heat up, add the spices and stir well.

    Slice the green chili peppers lengthwise, add them to the pot, stir, cover, and cook for 6 minutes. Keep the pot covered, as the sauce will have a strong aroma.

    Remove from heat, stir well, and pour into an airtight container or jar. Store in the refrigerator until ready to use.

    Serve with meals or snacks like chips or savory pastries.

    To tell if a green chili pepper is hot: if it looks shiny and feels firm and full of seeds (plump), it is likely to be very spicy, as shown in the picture.
