Ingredients

  1. 1.5 cupthick Poha
  2. 1large onion - finely chopped (Kanda or pyaaz)
  3. 1/4 teaspoonturmeric powder (haldi)
  4. 1 teaspoonmustard seed (rai)
  5. 2-2.5 tablespoonpeanuts (moongphali)
  6. 10-12curry leaves (kadi patta)
  7. 1green chilli (Hari mirch)
  8. 1 teaspoonsugar if required
  9. 1-1.5 tablespoonoil
  10. Salt as required

Steps

    Rinse the Poha in water till they soften.

  2. 2

    Now add sugar, turmeric powder and salt to the Poha and gently mix.

  3. 3

    Dry roast the peanuts in a pan till they become crunchy.

  4. 4

    Heat oil in the same pan. Crackle the mustard seeds first.

  5. 5

    Then add onions and saute them till they become translucent.

  6. 6

    Add curry leaves and green chillies. Saute for half a minute.

  7. 7

    Add the roasted peanuts and stir. Then add the Poha and stir well.

  8. 8

    Cover and steam the Poha for 3-4 minutes in a low flame. After switch off the fire and let the Kanda Poha remain covered for 1-2 minutes.

  9. 9

    Remove the lid and sprinkle some lemon juice, coriander leaves. Give a gentle stir and serve Kanda Poha hot with tea.
