It is generally made for an occasions which is offered to god as nivedyam and eventually served as prasadam. It is an authentic dessert prepared with Bengal gram dal, sugar, and ghee. It Is also known as ChanaDal Halwa.

Wash the chanadal and soak it for 15 minutes.

Pressure cook the chanadal for 4 whistles.

Mash it up slightly.

Take the cooked chanadal into a kadai.

Add sugar and mix until sugar melts, keep the flame on medium.

Keep stirring until it starts to thicken.

Once the mixture has thickened, add ghee and cardamom powder.

Cook it for few more seconds and switch off the flame.

In another pan, fry cashews.

Pour it over chana dal halwa/ maddi.

Mix well and serve warm or cold.
