Nutmeg Apple Cages

Perfect dessert. Apple cages was my very first lesson at Cookpad taught by the CHEF himself so I knew I had to give them a shot. Used my homemade shortcut puff pastry, not so many layers but oh well you live and learn, especially in the kitchen!

Perfect dessert. Apple cages was my very first lesson at Cookpad taught by the CHEF himself so I knew I had to give them a shot. Used my homemade shortcut puff pastry, not so many layers but oh well you live and learn, especially in the kitchen!
Steps

Roll out puff pastry into slim thickness. Cut out puff pastry into equal squares the refrigerate as you prepare the apples

Mix meted butter nutmeg and sugar in bowl

Peel core and slice apples into halves. Add apples to sugar butter mixture and coat well
- 4
Take oneof the puff pastry squares and brush with water on one side
- 5
Take another puff pastry square and cut alternating slits across the surface making sure you do not rip the pastry

Put one of the sliced apple and place on top of the puff pastry that was brushed with water. Cover with the second puff pastry that has slits ontop

Use a fork to crimp the edges so that the apple is held onto place
- 8
Use a sharp knife to cut off the excess puff pastry from the edges
- 9
Spread butter on a baking tray and lay the puff pastry on top. Beat egg with a little water and brush the top of the puff pastries

Bake the apple cages in a very hot oven until golden brown. Serve warm and bite into the lovely crunch on top and fluffy heartwarming center
