When my children were very young, I used to make this ‘Sweet & Sour Meatballs’ quite often. I put these meatballs into their lunch box and they loved them. The flavour of these meatballs brings back happy memories of those days. I always use beef & pork mix mince, but chicken mince is also very nice.

Ingredients

4 servings
  1. 500 gBeef & Pork Mince
  2. 4Spring Onions (firm white parts) *finely chopped
  3. 1/4 cup'Panko' Bread Crumbs
  4. 1Egg
  5. Ginger 1 small piece *grated
  6. Salt
  7. Pepper
  8. Oil for frying
  9. Sour Sauce>
  10. 3 tablespoonsMirin
  11. 1 tablespoonSugar
  12. 3 tablespoonsSoy Sauce
  13. 2 tablespoonsVinegar
  14. 1/4 cupTomato Ketchup
  15. 1 tablespoonPotato Starch Flour
  16. 2 tablespoonsWater

Steps

    Place Mince, Spring Onion, 'Panko' Bread Crumbs, Egg and Ginger in a bowl. Season with Salt and Pepper. Mix to combine, then roll the mixture into small balls. Place on a plate.

    Heat oil in a frying pan over medium-high heat. Cook meatballs turning for 4 to 5 minutes or until browned all over and cooked through. Transfer to a plate.

    Place Mirin, Sugar, Soy Sauce, Vinegar and Tomato Ketchup in a small bowl and mix well. In another small bowl, mix Potato Starch Flour and Water.

    Cook the sauce mixture in a large frypan over medium heat. When it is boiling, add the well mixed Potato Starch mixture gradually into the sauce and thicken up. Add meatballs and combine well.
