Mutton Chops

Mutton Chops made in my family style is one of those dishes that holds a special spot in my heart. It was one of my first go-to dishes when I entered married life. I wasn’t much of a cook back then, but I had a love of Mutton Chops and learnt it from my mom and sisters passionately. The recipe we have adopted from my grandfather who also had passion for cooking. Mutton chops cooked in freshly grounded coconut and pepper with ghee is always a favorite dish in my family.

Steps
- 1
Clean and wash mutton chops, add chopped onions, salt, haldi, chilli powder, ginger garlic paste and garam masala powder.
- 2
Put all these ingredients in a pan, add 2 cups of water and cook for 15 minutes on medium flame (varies depending on the mutton).
- 3
Remove the lid; add ground pepper and coconut paste. Cook for another 5 to 10 minutes till the gravy thickens.
- 4
Separate cooked chops from the gravy, keep them aside. Take frying pan, heat ghee and oil, fry chops one by one till chops become brown.
- 5
After frying chops keep them aside. Add cloves and cinnamon to the pan, fry the gravy in remaining oil till oil leaves sides.
- 6
Add fried chops to the gravy, fry for another 5 minutes. While frying ensure that chops should remain intact.
- 7
If done in non-stick pan, oil quantity can be reduced.
Transfer the mutton chops into a serving bowl and serve with Paratha or Rice and Sambar.
