Ingredients

20 minutes
2 servings
  1. 1 cup / 250 gmsooji / semolina
  2. 1/2 cupcurd
  3. 1 cupwater
  4. 1 tbspchopped green chilli
  5. 1/2 cup coriander leaves
  6. 1/2 cup grated beetroot
  7. 1 teaspoonurad dal / black gram
  8. 1 teaspooncumin seeds
  9. 1 teaspoonchopped Ginger
  10. 1 teaspoonmustard seeds
  11. 2 teaspoonrefined oil
  12. 1/2 tsp baking soda
  13. a generous pinchHing / Asafoeida
  14. 8-10 piecescurry leaves

20 minutes

    Blend coriander leaves to make a smooth paste and keep it aside.

  2. 2

    Take a bowl.,add suji and curd in it.Add salt.Mix nicely.Add water.

  3. 3

    Mix well and make sure no lumps in it.

  4. 4

    Covered the lid and rest for 20 minutes.

  5. 5

    Heat oil in a pan.

  6. 6

    Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds,curry leaves accordingly.

  7. 7

    Allow them to splatter.

  8. 8

    At urad dal and green chilli and ginger in it.

  9. 9

    Fry for another 30 seconds.

  10. 10

    Add hing and stir continuously.

  11. 11

    Turn off the flame.

  12. 12

    Pour it into the batter.

  13. 13

    Add baking soda.

  14. 14

    Give it a good mix.

  15. 15

    Now separate half of the batter in another bowl and add grated beet in it to make red idli.

  16. 16

    In the rest of the batter add coriander paste to form green idli.

  17. 17

    Pour water into idli cooker and boil the water.

    Grease little oil to idli moulds.

  19. 19

    Now put the batter into moulds.

    Once water is boiling place idli moulds into idli cooker.

    Cover the lid and cook for 15 minutes in medium flame.

    After 15 minutes remove the lid.

  23. 23

    Wet your fingers with water and press on idlis,if they come out clean without sticking to idlis,that means idlis are ready to serve.
