Steps

Cake Preparation: Beat the egg in a mixing bowl until smooth. Add the milk, vegetable oil, and syrup. Stir to combine.

Sift the cake flour, baking powder, and baking soda into the mixing bowl. Gently fold the flour until dissolved, then let the batter rest for 30 minutes.

After resting, pour the batter into a mold and steam over low heat for 15-20 minutes or until cooked through.

Soft Topping Preparation: Mix water, milk, and syrup in a pot. Stir to combine, then add the custard powder and stir until dissolved.

Heat over medium to low heat, stirring constantly until the mixture thickens. Add the unsalted butter and stir until melted. Once it starts to boil, remove from heat and let cool, or refrigerate. Then pour over the cake and chill before serving.
