Clean the fish by removing the guts and gills, then rinse thoroughly. Prepare all ingredients and bring the water to a boil.

Add the galangal, lemongrass, kaffir lime leaves, shallots, and crushed chilies to the boiling water. Let it simmer briefly, then gently add the fish. Do not stir to avoid a fishy smell.

Once the fish is cooked, skim off any foam to keep the broth clear and appetizing.

Prepare a serving bowl by squeezing lime juice and adding fish sauce. Mix well and adjust the taste as desired. Place the fish in the bowl, sprinkle with basil leaves and a little more crushed chilies, then pour the broth over the basil for added aroma. Ready to serve.
