Steps
- 1
In a large bowl, add the hot water and mix in the sugar (till dissolved) and the nutmeg.
- 2
Mix the flour and the lemon zest, then add these to the wet ingredients, followed by the sour milk and knead the dough.
- 3
Create a bore(Kashimo😀😀) in the dough and add the butter. Knead the dough until it no longer sticks to your hands or the bowl. Around 10minus or so
- 4
Allow it to rest for about 30 minutes so that it elasticates and the gluten completely activates.
- 5
Roll out the dough about 1/4 inch thick and with a knife (or cookie cutter or a round cup), shape your maandazi.
- 6
Heat your oil and fry the maandazi until they are golden brown on each side. This will take about a minute or two. Make sure your oil is not too cold because if it is, they will absord too much of the oil and become very disgustingly soggy.
- 7
Enjoy with a hot cup of tea or coffee
