Soak dal and rice for one hour. Heat ghee in a pressure cooker. Add the zeera, curry leaves, green chillies and let them splutter. Now add ginger, tomatoes, hing and haldi. Cook till the tomatoes are soft.

Strain and add the soaked dal and rice. Saute for a few minutes till the water dies up. Now add 4 cups of water and salt. Put the lid and cook for one whistle. Switch off the flame and wait till all the steam escapes.

Open the cooker and mix the dal well. Serve hot with a sprinkle of coriander leaves, crushed dry mint leaves and a blob of ghee.
