Ingredients

For 5 people
  • 3big onions sliced fine lengthwise
  • 10 clovesgarlic crushed
  • 1and half tomato slices lengthwise
  • as requiredGhee
  • 3 leavesdry tejpatta/ indian bay leaf
  • 1 inchginger finely sliced / paste
  • 2carrots diced into small pieces
  • 2potatoes diced in big pieces
  • Bunchgreen beans roughly sliced into half inch sizes
  • 1 small cupmoong dal
  • 1 small cupmasoor dal
  • 1 small cupchana dal
  • 3 tablespoonsblack urad dal
  • 1 small cup'govindobhog' rice/ flavourful small grain rice
  • 1 teaspoonTurmeric powder
  • to tasteSalt
  • 2dry red chillies
  • 3hot green chillies
  • 1 teaspoonsugar
  • To be cooked in a pressure cooker

Steps

  1. 1

    Heat 4 heaped tablespoons of ghee and add the dry red chilli and tejpatta to it.

    Add the onions and saute till light brown

  3. 3

    Add the garlic cloves and saute

  4. 4

    Add all your veggies(potato, tomato, beans, carrot),ginger, green chilli, sugar, turmeric and salt and saute for 2-3 minutes. Add ghee if your pan is drying out.

  5. 5

    Wash all the dals and rice together and add it in the pressure cooker over the other items. Add enough water to cover 2 inch over the dals.

  6. 6

    Pressure cook for 3 whistles. Lower the flame after the first whistle. Let the steam release on it's own once you turn off the gas.

  7. 7

    Once you open the lid, check if you need to add water to get it to the right consistency(like a very thick soup). Boil don't pressure cook anymore. And it's ready
