Cooking Instructions
- 1
For Toasted Buns: You’ll need about 2 tsp of softened butter for six hamburger buns.
- 2
Brown the ground beef in a large skillet, drain the grease and set aside the meat. Don’t skip this part, draining the meat is crucial to stopping your filling from getting greasy.
- 3
In the same skillet, melt 2 tablespoons of butter and saute the onions over medium high heat until caramelized.
- 4
Stir in the remaining ingredients and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 5 – 7 minutes. The sauce will thicken.
- 5
Add the ground beef to the sauce in the skillet and stir until cooked through.
- 6
To serve, butter the insides of your hamburger buns and toast them lightly on a griddle pan. Add the filling to your hamburger buns & enjoy. You can even top it with cheese.

This is a popular sandwich in America. It's hearty and loved by both adults and kids. I often made it for my daughter's Girl Scout camp. The origin of this recipeIn America, there are canned sauces for Sloppy Joes, but the taste is not great. I tried making it with inexpensive tomato soup. nikigibsonTranslated from Cookpad Japan -

Sloppy Joes Sloppy Joes
I had Sloppy Joes once when I was a kid, it was at my friend's house, and I wasn't into them. I remember it being really sweet, and gross. So, when I got the America's Test Kitchen cookbook a few years ago, I didn't even look at the recipe, but then I was curious as to what was actually in it. Upon reading the recipe, It seemed super simple and tasty....so I'm not sure what the problem was when I was a kid. Anyway, I tried the recipe with my family, and it's quick, super easy and delicious. It goes really well on the Soft Pretzel Buns. To keep the cooking to a minimum, serve it with a fresh garden salad. Champagne and yoga pants -
