Ingredients

  1. 2 cupsRaw rice
  2. 1/4 cupMoong dal
  3. 3 cupJaggery
  4. 1 pinchNutmeg powder
  5. 1 tspCardamon powder
  6. 50 gmGhee
  7. handfulCashew
  8. handfulDry grapes
  9. as neededWater
  10. to tasteSalt

Cooking Instructions

    Add 2 cups of raw rice to bowl. Wash well and soak for 10 -15 min.

    Cook the rice to a mashy consistency & strain well

    Dry roast 1/4 cup moong dal. Add water and cook well to mashy consistency.

    Add 1.5 cup water to 3 cups of jaggery. Boil till the jaggery is fully dissolved. Now switch the flame & strain the jaggery liquid

    Boil the strained jaggery liquid to form a thick syrup in a sauce pan. Add the boiled moong dal & boiled rice to the pan.

    Mix the ingredients well and cook till they blend well.

    Add a pinch of nutmeg, 1/4 tsp cardamon powder & a pinch of salt to the cooked mixture. Add 50 gm of ghee to a saute pan and roast cashew & dry grapes as required.

    Once the cashew & dry grapes turn to golden brown texture mix them to the jaggery rice pan to get delicious Sakkarai Pongal
