Talbina Talbina
Talbina is a barley porridge- recommended to us by the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). It’s a simple healthy breakfast porridge consisting of barley flour and milk. This healthy breakfast is nourishing and quick to make. It takes less than 5 minutes to prep and it’s healthy!A warming porridge, Talbina is ideal for Ramadan, which can be served in many ways but remains low in potassium and low in phosphate. It is traditionally served for suhoor. The cooked grains of barley have a chewy, gummy candy like texture more or less like tapioca or boba pearls. You could make your own variations of Talbina. Either blend the cooked barley coarsely and add more whole / skimmed milk to make a drink or eat the cooked barley as a hot cereal for breakfast. Add chopped almonds, raisins, bananas or berries as toppings or flavour it with cardamom/cinnamon powder etc. But for sweetening it, use only natural ingredients such as honey or dates and no added sugar. This dish is best served fresh, however it can be stored in the fridge for up to 2 days. Reheat in a saucepan with some extra water. Sarvat Hanif -

Mango Daliya/ Mango porridge Mango Daliya/ Mango porridge
Mango Dalia is a sweet porridge made with broken wheat, milk and mangoes. My mother used to make this sweet porridge for breakfast and I used to save some and had it after dinner as a dessert. It is a great way to use mangoes which are very healthy and nutritious. I don't use any sweetner for this Dalia as mango puree provides the sweetness and creamy texture as well. But sometimes the mangoes are not sweet enough and you have to add a little sugar or any other sweetner to enhance the taste. This porridge is a great way to start your day. Broken wheat provides all the benefits of a grain, mangoes provide the nutrients of a fruit and milk is a great source of calcium and protein. Together they make a complete healthy breakfast meal. It is good for growing kids also. This one pot meal can be prepared in advance and can be kept in the refrigerator for 6-7 hours. It tastes best when served chilled. #CookClick Sumeet Kaur (Recipes and more by Sumi) -
Barley Flour Cookies Barley Flour Cookies
I originally made these cookies with kinako, but lately I have been making them with barley flour instead.Caution: The ingredients are adjusted to suit barley flour. Making these with kinako requires different amounts and processes, so be careful!Step 2: It's rather difficult to clump the dough together, so you can add a little bit more soy milk if you like. Don't add too much or it will probably become too tough. If you change the flours to 50 g barley flour and 50 g regular flour, it will really bring out the aroma of the barley flour, but the dough will be harder to work with. Either way is okay. Recipe by Soraten mama cookpad.japan -
California Farm Barley Sprouts California Farm Barley Sprouts
One pound of unhulled barley grain make 6 pounds of fresh green sprouts in a week, 12 pounds in two weeks, indoors in a mason jar or in a raingutter piece in your garage or shed, or outside on wood. A baby wading pool works well too. Outside growing takes longer. You can grow 6 to 12 pounds of fresh sprouts from 2 cups of dry barley grains. You can have a sprout salad every day, bake sprouted barley bread, and have sprout and avocado cheese sandwiches. We also use sprouted barley to feed our chickens, our geese, our piglet, our lambs and our horses. If you give them hay and a mat of fresh sprouted barley side by side, they will eat the barley sprouts first. There is an old farmers trick in keeping mold out of of sprouting barley: we mix a spoonfull of sunflower seeds with the barley grains, water spray the seeds twice a day on a wood surface that drains, no mold.
