Mango Dalia is a sweet porridge made with broken wheat, milk and mangoes. My mother used to make this sweet porridge for breakfast and I used to save some and had it after dinner as a dessert. It is a great way to use mangoes which are very healthy and nutritious. I don't use any sweetner for this Dalia as mango puree provides the sweetness and creamy texture as well. But sometimes the mangoes are not sweet enough and you have to add a little sugar or any other sweetner to enhance the taste.

This porridge is a great way to start your day. Broken wheat provides all the benefits of a grain, mangoes provide the nutrients of a fruit and milk is a great source of calcium and protein. Together they make a complete healthy breakfast meal. It is good for growing kids also. This one pot meal can be prepared in advance and can be kept in the refrigerator for 6-7 hours. It tastes best when served chilled. #CookClick

  2. 2+1/2 cup water
  3. 1 cupmilk
  4. 1 cupmango puree
  5. 1+1/2 mango cut into 1/2" cubes
  6. 2 tbspbrown sugar or normal sugar (optional)
  7. 1/4 cupcondensed milk
  8. 1/4 cupmixed dry fruits (almonds, cashews, pistachios) chopped
  9. 1 tbsppumpkin seeds to garnish
  10. as required Pomegranate arils to garnish

Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

You will require 2-3 big mangoes preferably 'Safeda' variety to make this daliya/porridge. Make mango puree of 1+1/2 Big mango that will yield 1 cup mango puree. And cut the rest of the mangoes in cubes.

  2. 2

Take a pressure cooker and dry roast daliya and on a medium- low flame until aromatic (stirring in between).
Once the Dalia turns golden brown and aromatic, add milk and cook uncovered for 5 minutes on a low flame then close the lid and put on the weight. Pressure cook till 3-4 whistles.
Turn off the gas and allow the pressure to release itself.

  3. 3

Open the lid and add milk and cook on a medium flame for 2-3 minutes. Then add mango puree and condensed milk. Add more milk if required to adjust the consistency according to your liking.

  4. 4

Now cook the daliya for another 2-3 minutes or until the daliya reaches a creamy consistency. At this stage check the sweetness of the daliya/porridge and if required add the sugar. However you can completely avoid sugar if the mangoes are rife and sweet. Then add the chopped mangoes and dry fruits and turn off the gas.

  5. 5

Let it cool and serve hot or cold as per your liking.
