How to Prepare Squid

To demonstrate, I'm using a spear squid that often gets caught in bottom trawling nets in the ocean around Ibaraki Prefecture. I hope it's useful.
If you keep calm when cutting then things should go pretty smoothly. Recipe by Ibaraki jizakana ouenshitai

Cooking Instructions
- 1
Insert a finger into the head of the squid and pull out the organs.
- 2
Slowly and firmly pull on them, and they should come out smoothly.
- 3
Next, peel off the transparent, plastic-like shell around the head.
- 4
Now, separate the organs from the tentacles and eyeball. (Be careful not to damage the ink sac when cutting away.)
- 5
Remove the beak from the tentacles.
- 6
Lastly, cut away the fins from the head and peel off the skin on both sides. You can peel it away more easily using a dry cloth.
- 7
And this concludes the preparation.

For Beginners - How to Prepare a Squid For Beginners - How to Prepare a Squid
When I was young I couldn't clean a squid, but I wanted to eat squid. The year that I got that urge, it was a bumper season for squid, so it was so cheap!I couldn't find instructions for doing something so basic in the cookbooks,so I snuck a peek in at the bookstore! (Nowadays you can find cookbooks like that though.) In the end, I phoned my mother and asked her how to do it. (LOL) When you really want to eat something, you'll do a lot to get there! It's OK if you can't do it so neatly in the beginning! Just cut it however you can, take off any parts you can't eat, and try cooking it. In-season squid is cheap and delicious! Just give it a go the next time you feel an urge to eat squid. It's so yummy! Recipe by Kanakana higurashi cookpad.japan -

I could not fit this procedure in my "Simmered Squid and Daikon Radish" recipe, so I uploaded it separately. The simmered squid can get tough and chewy, but I tried many ways to make it tender. Now I am using this method. The key is the boiling time. Be careful not to cook it too long or the squid will be tough and chewy. Recipe by -ringo- cookpad.japan -
Preparing Foil-Baked Squid Preparing Foil-Baked Squid
I love eating every bit of fresh squid. This recipe works great as a simple side dish. Please use a fresh squid!!For Step 6, I added soy sauce.....but after cooking it, a lot of moisture came out, diluting the flavors. Because the squid is fresh it will still taste great but maybe it's better to add salt at that stage and pour over some soy sauce at the end. Recipe by Tatakaukokkusan cookpad.japan -

Although this may appear to be a common recipe, since I wanted to eat it the innards, too, I devised my own method. If you want the squid to turn out soft and juicy, then cook for a shorter time than instructed. If overboiled, the squid will become tough, and will also lose it's sweetness and moisture. Recipe by Tomuraushi cookpad.japan -

Juicy Grilled Stuffed Squid Juicy Grilled Stuffed Squid
This is an easy grilled squid recipe that is a perfect meal with the family especially during summer. It can be paired with freshly cooked steamed rice together with an ice-cold beverage. If you have no access to a charcoal grill, you can use stove-top grill pans that are widely available. However, I suggest that you pick a cast-iron one since it can handle high heat close to a charcoal grill.Video: https://youtu.be/T3r8-PlrHWkRecipe by: HomebasedChef homebasedchef -

This is a dish I've been making for a while and I love it.This is pretty simple once you've finished preparing the squid. However if you tear the ink pouch, you're going to have a real mess on your hands. As this is sashimi grade squid, you don't have to cook it thoroughly. If you burn it the taste will get pretty bitter, so please be careful. I know that squid is usually cooked with daikon radish or taro root, but for some reason I've had potatoes with my squid ever since I was small.Be careful about when you put the squid back into the pot, since you're simmering some more after that point and you wouldn't want the potatoes to fall apart. Self-braising Scrumptious Rice Stuffed Squid Self-braising Scrumptious Rice Stuffed Squid
I adopted this from a recipe that I saw on TV. The TV show used a microwave to cook the squid, but the sauce did not penetrate too well, so I changed the recipe to simmer the sauce on the stovetop.-If you put too much rice inside, the squid will burst, so be careful.-If the rice is not enough, it will fall apart when you slice it into pieces.-If you have leftover seasoned rice, don't stuff it into the squid, but make it into a grilled rice balls and enjoy.-Simmer it over low heat. Try not to scorch it. For 1 squid's worth. Recipe by Komikan cookpad.japan
