Before the advent of bread machines, I was very wary of working with yeast, it just seemed daunting to me, my mother gave me this recipe which I have modified slightly over the years to suit my tastes.

Ingredients

  1. Onion puree (optional)
  2. 1onion, chopped
  3. 1water (to cover onions)
  4. Bread
  5. 500 gramsself raising flour
  6. 500 mllow fat plain yoghurt
  7. 1 packagessoup powder (55g), any flavour, I prefer mushroom
  8. 2 tbsponion puree (optional)
  9. bread topping
  10. 1/4 cupgrated cheese (or to taste)

Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

    To make onion puree: Add onion to small pot, cover with water. Boil until softened and translucent. Drain most of the water, leaving a little water, puree till smooth. Put puree into mason jar, refrigerate.

    To make bread: Mix together, bread ingredients into a sloppy dough. Put into prepared loaf tin. Sprinkle with grated cheese and bake for 1 hour at 180° C
